Expanding the range of emotions

Updated: Aug 9

I haven't cried for a couple of years, I think. I used to become moved all the time, while I also was grieving my mother. Now, it's only movies about prison camps under WWII, that reminds me of my grandmother's fate, that tears me up. How is that?

I have come to understand the nature of drama. We become moved by others' dramas, when in fact something like a returning soldier in fact is a happy occasion! He's alive! Celebrate! But instead, all of our pent up fear of loosing, has its release. In comparison to our own history, we then interpret it differently.

The range of emotions, can indeed be experienced. I believe that, when we have both reached the bottom and its peak, our ability to nuance what we feel, increases, and thus also affect us differently, with a deeper understanding.

I've read a little in the book "The Language of Emotions" by Karla McLaren. Definitely a must!
