I'm against psychiatry. While having faith implies having hope in a greater power than oneself, modern medicine tends to believe in itself more than humans.
First of all, it's a matter of evidence. In a world of testing, oral storytelling should never be enough. Stories that can be changed, and that we interpret with our bias, both personal and cultural, as well as our desire to fit it into a psychiatric profile. Second, would a drug for my brain, make my teeth hurt less, rather than taking a pain-killer and see a dentist? Should my belief system or emotions become pushed down rather than vented? What kind of stress would that put onto my body?
Spiritual healing invites restoration through faith alone (paired with caring for our bodies for our souls to live in). And that is all that is needed.
A blue pill or a dialogue?
