Making a flower lei

Updated: Sep 19, 2020

The other day when I was practicing Hawaiian Hula in the garden, I noticed tiny little flowers on the ground that had fallen off a tree. I picked up a couple and looked closer.

The flowers are tiny but perfect, shaped as orchides and with a reinforcement underneath as if they were designed for this particular purpose: to adorn someone's neck for love as a lei. I decided to make one and collected about 100 flowers in a plastic bag, sprinkled them with a couple of drops of water, and put it in the refrigerator over night. Then threaded them. This is how it became, enough for a little girl to wear perhaps... or a collar for a dog.

Pretty perfect! Now imagine these in bamboo instead. Then it would last for years.
