To whom is my knowledge?

Updated: May 29, 2021

After watching a documentary about Sylvia Plath, the American poet, I made a discovery. It said that during the 1950's, the purpose of a woman's education was simply to be able to foster her children well intellectually, ie to use it for motherhood and as a spouse. What if this belief is so strongly embedded into our culture, it's still governs the employment of women, like me. Am I unemployed because I'm not married? "Should" I then not have a job and put my skills to good use for a client, a company, an organization or even a country?

I've been feeling it for a long time. But, do I want to be solemnly dependant on a man from day one? No. And just marry someone for show? I might as well dye my hair blonde and enlarge my boobs! Have we not come any further than in the 50's, now in 2021?

Sylvia Plath for summer read it is.
