Looking up

One of the things that is different in Isadora Duncan dance from ordinary ballet or jazz, is how our hands are often set to droop. Another thing is that our neck is tilted backwards, so that we can look straight up into the sky. This has been quite the practice for me. I found it very hard in the beginning, and even a little scary. But with practice, both doing the Vrksasana (Tree balance pose) in Yoga looking up, and dancing more from within, it's become easier. I'm now daring to!

Here is a photo from today, doing such an Isadora Duncan motion. In comparison, in Hawaiian Hula we look in the same direction as our hands. The same thing applies for when we walk or stand, How easy it is to look down on the ground instead of looking forward (or up). It not only changes our entire posture, it changes our outlook and our ability to confidently claim our space. Have you tried it?
