The difference between a transformation and a change

We often use the words change and transformation interchangeably, but there is a bit of a difference between these two terms and what they encompass. They both can include having to face resistance and be implemented through a gradual process, but transformation tends to be more fluid and integral.

A change is often an exchange, outside of yourself, such as conditions, structure, ownership or simply using a different system or object than before. To make it simple: Changing from oranges to apples.
A transformation on the other hand, is more of an inside job. We might begin with one change in how we think and behave, then learn something about it that makes us change something more, creating a new result, that in turn requires a new change. To make it simple: Transforming apples to applesauce.
A change often leads to more changes, such as when you change your home to a new house, you likely want to change furniture too and after a while, you might even change how you dress, work and commute. When this has become internalised and also changed you as a person, you have undergone a transformation. A change is often a short-term project, while a transformation process might last longer and be ongoing as we evolve.
