So, for those who know me and/or have read my blog and latest book, you know I can't swim, and have been afraid of water, since I was 5 years old. In 2015, I finally overcame some of that fear, and dared to put my head under, during a vacation to Portugal, after receiving a Hawaiian Lomilomi massage. This is something I've continued practicing, both in pools and in the ocean, ever since. And... this year, I decided to go and get swim classes! My goal, is to learn how to float, and hopefully be able to swim a lapse in the shallow area of a pool. There is also a requirement, to roll into the pool, and to jump in, from the side, that I'm not quite sure if I dare, but we'll see.
The first thing I did, was to get myself a good new bikini, given my weight gain, and of course, a big, cozy towel for my inner child, designated for this purpose (and to use also when laying outside to tan)! Then, this past Wednesday, thanks to a grant, I finally went to the public indoor swimming centre in my area. It was the first time I stepped into one, since 9th grade! Quite a memory rekindling. I checked out the facilities, took a shower, looked into the sauna, and tried both the shallow pool, and the shallow part of the deep pool. The swimming centre is fully booked until October, but then, I hope to start taking adult swim classes. Brave, huh?!
