Who are you behind your content?

The more specialised content we display on our social media profiles, the more aware we must be of it not being completely congruent with the person behind it. What I mean by that, is that there are so much more to a person than what he or she is showing online. Yet, we can't help but evaluate a person's whole personality based on what we see. We assume that someone is a certain way, in all areas of life, all the time, the same as he or she describes her/himself. This is of course not true. And some people refuse to communicate beyond their brand, assuming the persona of the brand, which isn't true either.

Sometimes I feel that our screens are an obstacle to making conversation. Whenever we both agree on a certain topic or political interest, it becomes easier. But if not, is there then any reason for further talking? This is of course the same as when we meet in person, but I just don't have the energy to chat with someone not on my level. I have a capacity and talent to tune in to various levels, thanks to both my upbringing and personality, as well as my ecuation and experience in copywriting, in order to ensure that I can communicate so that any target group will feel it being aligned with them. This, however, has a down-side in my personal life. Just because I can understand you, doesn't mean that you understand me, especially if your goal is to just impose your own view.

The last couple of weeks of seeing people react on ICE's increased brutality in their search for undocumented immigrants in the United States however, has made it more visible where people really stand and what they really feel. Something I welcome. So sometimes, reacting is really important not only for the cause, but for the authenticity behind our profiles.

As always in life, real listening to the answers of genuine questions of interest, is the only way to get to know someone properly.
